Why do relationships wax and wane? We could relate it to a variety of challenges such as; differing about kids or extended families, the loss of a job, or an extended illness. Allowing your relationship to grow stagnant because your daily routine crowds out time to nurture each other can quickly cause even the best relationships to unravel.

Could it be as scientific as the best offense is a healthy defense? Really, in relationships? Possibly. Defending something we're willing to fight for is a good start. Creating rituals, especially intimate ones, builds a solid offense that can be utilized during stressful times. First, build a core group of strong offense and defense to be on the ready. The science comes into play when you learn how and when to use each strategy to strengthen your relationship.
We've found a wealth of on-line resources, much information is free. Here's just a sample to get you started. Carol Bruess, professor in communication cites Science of a Happy Marriage in her blog. The University of Maryland, Baltimore have an excellent list of 37 items that are Qualities of a Healthy Marriage. Peter Post wrote Essential Manners for Couples, available at your local library. SKYPE: A New Ritual

We've been told we have interesting ways of communicating and today is no exception. For the past couple years we've happily chatted between our offices (20 yards apart) via iChat on our Macs, recently for some unknown reason, iChat went on strike. True to our nature, we were not deterred. We found a new way for our IM communication; SKYPE.
So it goes like this: Hello my name is MariahByron Edgington...Hello my name is ByronMariah Edgington. And that's pretty much how we live our lives, always in communication with one another. We can't even imagine what the day would be like without the other in it, and we like it that way.
I feel incredibly wealthy because of what our relationship provides.
